Ebeth Van Heerden

A career in financial services was not one that Ebeth had originally considered.

A social science graduate, Ebeth was lucky enough to be discovered by a wise and courageous mentor early on in her career while working for an executive search firm. Her mentor appreciated her sincere passion for people and showed her that financial services are not merely about markets and numbers, but that the very essence of the retail investment industry is to help people build better futures.

Today this mentor is one of the most senior women in the financial services sector and deputy CEO of a major listed company.

Ebeth has worked in the financial services industry since 2003 and has gained valuable experience across various areas of retail distribution, having represented both asset managers and platforms to independent financial advisors, discretionary fund managers and bulk dealers. Currently, Ebeth leads business development in the advisory market for offshore investment manager, Schroders Investment Management Ltd.

Over the course of her career she has seen how women can excel, succeed and thrive – but struggle, too. She believes it should be easier for women to succeed in this sector and as the number of women in finance – especially those in senior roles – increases, younger generations should look at the industry and see it as a place where they can find their purpose.

It’s empowering for women to know that each one of us can contribute to making a space for women, one where they feel they truly belong. And her own career path is an inspiring example of this.

Ebeth has a Bachelor of Arts in Social Sciences and a postgraduate diploma in Financial Planning, both from Stellenbosch University. She is a Certified Financial Planner®.
